The Needs Analysis (nominal group) course prepares the user to conduct a
needs analysis with focus on using a nominal group of subject matter experts
to do so.
In the course context, the term "needs analysis" means the process by which
the root cause of performance problems are identified and corrective action
plans developed. Depending upon the results of the analysis itself, those
action plans may or may not include training.
While there are numerous methods to conduct a needs analysis, probably the
most accurate and efficient way to do so is with a group of qualified experts
meeting in a workshop setting and using the methods addressed in the course.
The course is a computer based course that normally takes approximately two
hours to complete.
There are eight lessons in the course. The lessons, their descriptions, and
their objectives are:
Lesson 1 - Nominal Group Needs Analysis
This Lesson introduces the concept of using a nominal group, workshop approach
to needs analysis and explains why, it many cases, a needs analysis should
be done before initiating any sort of training development project. You will
learn the key elements of a needs analysis and the people who are candidates
for inclusion in the nominal group.
Lesson 2 - Document Review
This lesson addresses using document review as a part of the nominal group
needs analysis process when applicable. You'll gain insight as to when to
use it, how to use it, and what to do with the results when you finish the
process.
Lesson 3 - Brainstorming
This lesson addresses using brainstorming as a part of the nominal group
needs analysis workshop when applicable. For some who complete this lesson,
the concepts will serve as a review. For others it presents some techniques
that are particularly useful in a needs analysis process.
Lesson 4 - Fishbone Diagrams
This lesson addresses using fishbone diagrams as a part of the nominal group
needs analysis process when applicable. Fishbone diagrams provide a convenient
way to illustrate and work with cause and effect relationships.
This lesson will also address how to start with an apparent cause and then
continue to investigate to determine the real "root" cause or causes. Trying
to implement corrective action plans without first identifying the real root
cause or causes, often results in wasted resources. This lesson helps to
avoid that type of pitfall.
Lesson 5 - Pareto Diagram
This lesson addresses using Pareto diagrams as a part of the nominal group
needs analysis process when applicable. Pareto Diagrams, or Pareto Charts
as they are sometimes called, are used to illustrate a distribution of items
in such a way that it is very easy to see if one or more of the items really
stand out. This lesson addresses Pareto Charts from the viewpoint of how
to construct and use them in a nominal group setting.
Lesson 6 - Flow Charts
This lesson addresses using Flow Charts as a part of the nominal group needs
analysis process when applicable. Although the use of flowcharts in a nominal
group needs analysis is rare, it is recommended that a facilitator know at
least the three basic symbols used in flowcharting.
Lesson 7 - Report Generation
This lesson addresses creating the final report resulting from a needs analysis.
Lesson 8 - Coordination and Preparation Activities
The purpose of this lesson is to provide you with a suggested schedule or
checklist of coordination related activities that are essential to a successful
workshop.
Note: Lesson 8 also has three printable letter samples and a printable
coordinator's checklist.
Cost: $49.00 U. S. Payment can be made by credit card through PayPal.
The course requires W98 or above to run.
The course uses a Challenge - Response security process that limits its use
to a single PC. After you download, install and start the course, it will
issue you a randomly generated, six-digit Challenge code which you must write
down for future reference. Then return to this web site and click on the
Purchase Response Code button. That will take you to a secure Pay Pal
web site to complete the credit card transaction.
On the Pay Pal Screen, you must enter the Challenge Code as well as your
credit card information.
After the credit card has been processed, you will be branched to another
screen where you can create an email, once again enter your Challenge Code,
and then send the email Pete Blair and Associates. You should receive your
Response Code by return email or phone within 48 hours.
Upon closing the browswer, you will return to the course where you can sign
off until you receive the Response Code.
